Studio Session with Miss P

Love does not even begin to describe the all the feels I have for my new studio space. And this session with Miss P just makes the space that much more amazing in every way! I am lucky beyond words to get to snuggle and play with and capture darling kiddos like her.

She’s so adorable getting all fascinated with her toes and her little fingers wrapped around them…and those pursed lips starting to smile???? Is she for real with all that cuteness?


There is quite a bit of versatility in the studio space which allows for great sessions, especially for sitters! Miss P was a fan. That smile was a big stamp of approval!

Scheduling Newborn Sessions

I love doing newborn sessions and I am so grateful when a client schedules with me! A few things you’ll need to keep in mind is that you’ll need to schedule your session ahead of time- before your expected due date is preferable. That gives me some notice that you will be having your sweet little one soon and let’s face it, those babies have their own idea of the perfect birthday. Once your little one arrives you will need to call me directly to schedule your session which will be during the first 12 days after birth. This is the real newborn period when they’re still wrinkled and tiny and so very new. We don’t want to miss that window.

On the day of your session you should plan on spending approximately 2 to 3 hours with me. We will be working on your newborn’s schedule so I like to leave time for feedings, diaper changes and snuggles. I have an amazing new studio and that is where I prefer to have newborn sessions due to the airy, light and well-lit space it provides. This space has a bed and a beautiful environment which is perfect for intimate newborn sessions and is a space that I am already familiar with so I know we’ll get amazing photos there. And as an added bonus, I offer studio sessions at a discount!


Being away from home means that you will need to pack for that period of time and not just for baby, but for you as well. For many moms, this is the first time they’ve spent as much time out of the house since birth. You may need snacks and water or a nursing pillow. Even though our focus will be the newborn, I ask that you also be prepared for photos. Sometimes babies don’t want to sleep or settle during the session and just want to snuggle with mama. And that’s okay…if you are prepared! So whether or not you feel photo ready, a little make up and hair with a nice but comfortable outfit will help tremendously so that you look your best loving on your new little one!



I do schedule newborn sessions in your home if you prefer. If you decide to have the session in your home please have your home photo ready as it will be the backdrop to your photos.  Because photos can capture quite a bit of the environment, it is best that the counters are cleared of clutter, and the floor picked up, as well as having your bed made. If your house is anything like mine, check under couches, tables, buffets and ottomans where things often mysteriously hide.


It is also important to get your home very warm before your session so we can do our best at keeping your little one asleep and warm for their photos when stripped down to a diaper; few things are as precious as a naked newborn baby! The whole family will need to be photo ready before the start of your session so that siblings, mom and dad can all be a part of the session. After all, this is a momentous time for everyone!


Whether you schedule in studio or at home, I do ask that you arrange for one parent to accompany siblings away from the session after we have taken sibling photos. I will try to take a couple shots of the siblings together because it is such a special time for all the children, however, it will be no more than 30 minutes of the allotted time and can make toddlers and little kids especially antsy to wait around for the session to end. The main focus of the newborn session is to really capture all the tiny details of your newborn during the first days. Excited siblings can make that particularly difficult so the group family photos will be minimal. If you would like to make that a larger focus, I suggest scheduling a classic Family Session as well.


Neutral clothing and mild prints are best for newborn sessions but you want to be comfortable and put-together most of all. If you are interested in any props for your session I do have neutral props such as blankets, wraps and baskets, as well as headbands for baby girls that I will bring along but you will be in charge of anything specific for your session such as hats, diaper covers, special outfits or meaningful props that can make your session unique and special for you.

As always, this is an all inclusive package which means you will receive a $50 print credit along with all of your digital images available for download in the online gallery. Also included is the print rights for all your images.

Baby J

Baby J and the Amazing Nursery…doesn’t that sound like the best title for a book? How about a photo book with all of this captured goodness?

I love all the little details including this darling mobile! And how cute is mama in the background just loving on her boy?!



His little details are the most special though.

Handsome little J even peeked out of his sleepy newborn eyelids to check out his new world.

Then right back to sleep….in mama’s arms where all is right.

First Anniversary

As the blog has reached its first anniversary it seemed fitting to share this gorgeous couple’s first anniversary session under the St. John’s Bridge in north Portland. With one year under their belt and many more to come, they were so clearly in love!

I love how tenderly they hold each other and how much it shows that they richly enjoy one another’s company.

And of course, the couple who plays together…well, you know.

Lumber Jack

Clean cut has been traded in for beards and bow ties for suspenders over cozy flannels. The rough and tumble is here to stay and I’ll be the first to say that I love it. So when I got to do this Ah-MAZING session with a little lumber Jack I was smitten from the start.

And these dimpled hands…is there anything sweeter?

Litte Lumber Jack and his axe were just too perfect and he wielded that axe like a pro.

I just cannot get enough of these big blue eyes.

At the end of a long day of hard work, a warm cuppa and snuggles with mommy are what even the tough guys need. And this squeezable little guy is so easy to snuggle.

Beautiful F. Family

Our cloud blanketed Oregon days are just as beautiful as the sun kissed ones and was lovely during this beautiful family’s session. With weathered and worn barns in the back, the F. Family looked right at home.

This brother-sister duo were so sweet and that strawberry red hair holds a special place in my heart!

Alexander-Klassen Crew

Oh, this family. Oh, these people. They are people FULL of life. The kind you would love to have for neighbors, to share a beer or a cup of coffee with. They had so much fun at our session and brought a wonderful energy with them. They laughed and played and made it fun to do my job!

There’s a lot of love here, so I have no doubt that it is true.

Allfrey’s Lifestyle Session

I adore lifestyle sessions. I love how they capture the day to day, real life images of family. The Allfrey family was just too cute with their fun girls. Especially when enjoying the simple pleasures of a silly book, fresh crayons and delicious fruit.

Sharing stories with Daddy is what special days are made of.

Fresh crayons and a blank piece of paper turns every child into an artist.

Of course no day is complete without a bowl of fresh berries with whipped cream. And these sisters are just too cute together and helping Mommy in the kitchen.

L+T+J = Love

Love isn’t always perfect….but yeah, this time it totally is. There really is no couple as adorably in love with each other like these two.

That handsome little guy was a riot too! Oh his expressions were priceless and the source of great, gut wrenching laughter! Such a ham!

Did you just feel your heart grow three times its size? I did! These amazing people share so much happy and it was a delight to capture them! I love love.

Padilla Wedding

I had the honor of capturing Jaclyn and JJ’s wedding this Spring.  I loved everything about their wedding.  From the sweetest details, to the venue, to the incredibly wonderful bridal party.  Happy “happy ever after” to Mr. & Mrs Padilla!

If you’ve never been to the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR then you need to plan a trip there like yesterday. It is so beautiful. The architecture is gorgeous and the location is hip, urban and really amazing. It drips in sultry personality and is one of my all time favorite locations. It was so fitting for this really cool couple’s wedding and allowed them to shine.

They had so many unique and fun elements to their wedding, like the various shades of bridesmaid dresses, which gave visual interest and photographed really beautifully.

After a few warmup beers to get the nerves settled, these men donned their badass socks….yeah, these men rocked the socks.

The first look is a momentous tradition; and in the private moments together prior to the ceremony, the groom was able to fully imbibe his love’s beauty. An exchange of first looks, an exchange of gifts all leading up to the exchange of vows…

Exchanging forever seemed natural for these two wonderful people. They are clearly in love and happy to have found their life’s partner. As they walked down the aisle for the first time, the two as one, their smiles said it all. Happy looks amazing on them.

The first dances were precious, intimate moments and seeing the bride glow in the arms of her groom was so touching.

The Crystal Ballroom was such a wonderful place with all their accommodations for the wedding party, yummy drinks, amazing staff and phenomenal rooms. I highly recommend them for any weddings in Portland. I am so grateful for the Padillas entrusting me with their special day. It was such an honor and such a fun wedding too. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Padilla!
